Shaffer Announces More Than $3.6 Million in Local Grants for Community Improvements

HARRISBURG - Rep. Jeremy Shaffer (R-Allegheny) today announced more than $3.6 million in Local Share Account (LSA) grants will be coming back to northern Allegheny County. The money will fund important community improvements, ranging from facility upgrades to public safety initiatives and municipal equipment needs.

The funding was approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA).

Local Share Account grants are funded through gaming revenues under Act 71 of 2004 and are used to support economic development, community improvement and public interest projects.

“I’m incredibly happy to see significant investments being brought back to area to benefit our first responders, parks, infrastructure and community resources,” Shaffer said. “This funding is a direct result of bipartisan work focused on meeting local needs.”

The funding approved includes:

• Allegheny County Redevelopment Authority - $1 million, on behalf of Allegheny Health Network, to build an EMS training center in Pine Township.

• Hampton Township - $200,000 to replace the roofs of the municipal and FITES buildings.

• Marshall Township - $524,410 to add more parking at Altmyer Park and build a sensory garden.

• Pine Township - $250,000 to build a new municipal building on Park Drive.

• Richland Township - $200,000 to purchase a new 10-ton dump truck.

• Richland Township – $93,577 on behalf of the Northern Regional Police Officers Association to purchase a pair of new police vehicles.

• Richland Township - $197,000 on behalf of Richland Emergency Medical Service Inc. to purchase a new ambulance.

• Richland Township Municipal Authority - $125,000 to replace waterlines along Beechnut Drive.

• West Deer Township - $434,800 for improvements at Bairdford Park including a new concession stand and garage for park maintenance.

• Allegheny County Redevelopment Authority - $639,271, on behalf of Pittsburgh Botanic Garden, to build a new fence around the property and repave part of McGill Drive.

The CFA is an independent agency responsible for administering state investments that support Pennsylvania’s economic growth and community development.
